Kulen Mountain
It began with a casual conversation with the children. I was telling them about my trip to many Asian countries during the last few months. I asked them where they wanted to visit? As there were a lot of tourists and volunteers visiting the Chres Village School and Orphanage from various countries every day, and they always told the children about their home countries, I surely thought the children’s answer to my question would be that they wanted to go to some foreign countries… |
A new kitchen with dining room
During the 4 months where we (Sara & Paul Wallimann) worked at the orphanage, Sara’s dad Juerg come over to visit us. When he saw the kitchen there (two fireplaces under a palm tree) his hobby chef heart cried out loud and he decided to do something about it. |
The Chres Village School & Orphanage now have their own t-shirts
Next to teaching English and organising fundraisings, we (Sara & Paul) were looking for new ways to help the Chres Village School & Orphanage – and came up with the idea to produce t-shirts that the orphanage could sell to visitors and volunteers. |
Books For Chres Library
On a Quad Bike tour in March 09, after being shown around the Chres village orphanage, Tanya Jaw was immediately struck by the small number of books available in the school library.
“For over 400 students, one shelf of books was obviously not enough. After speaking with the caretaker and teacher, Phat Fiphon, I soon learnt books in English were difficult to find in Cambodia. For a school which teaches English, this was a definite set-back”. |
School Outing – 31.08.2009
Paul and Sara organised two big busses to bring 150 children to Ta Prohm and Bayon. It was exciting to explore these ancient temples, see monkeys and walk through Angkor Thom. |
Bakong Temple
The Bakong Temple is one of the oldest temples from the Angkor era and lies only four kilometers from the Chres Village School and Orphanage. |
Skandia’s Engagement in Cambodia
The main reason why we chose this organization was definitely the personal relationship, which was established thanks to Sara and Paul.
Another relevant factor, which convinced us, was the fact that there weren’t any administration costs spent. The whole sum we collected reached the orphanage and was invested to 100%. |
