A new kitchen with dining room
During the 4 months where we (Sara & Paul Wallimann) worked at the orphanage, Sara’s dad Juerg come over to visit us. When he saw the kitchen there (two fireplaces under a palm tree) his hobby chef heart cried out loud and he decided to do something about it.
With the first donations made by Juerg and Bill (an Australian, visiting the orphanage at the time), the Chres Village School & Orphanage could start building the new kitchen and dining room immediately. Back home in Switzerland, Juerg and his wife Monica started a successful fundraising campaign to collect the rest of the money needed for the building and the making of new tables, chairs and cupboards. 1 ½ months later the building and the new furniture were finished.
On the day we started building, a whole dragonfly swarm flew around over our heads, which we took as a good sign and decided to name the new kitchen ‘Dragonfly Kitchen’. We celebrated the new building by cooking spaghetti for all the orphans and the family. It was the first time ever that they ate western food. They loved it.
